Bring back Motion Path visual Style as a option

In blender we have a concept of "Allow the user to have the Option."

In this newest blender 5.2 Motion paths were changed so there is no visual indicator , just a automatic update. I'm not sure the reason. I'm sure it was for a view port speed issue. But i just wish when these changes get made there is still a option to use the old behavior. Because you break peoples work flows.

The old behavior makes animating easier for me especially when using bone widgets.

I wish the old visual behavior can be added as a option in the motion path display drop down.

just to comment here too in addition to replying on the chat. That feature never did what it was supposed to do which was to show how the motion path would look after confirming the transform. We discussed this in our meetings and decided to remove the feature since it's not working correctly.

We will bring back the feature eventually except we will make it work properly.

What I have put on my todo list in the meantime is an option to show the origin point of a bone, even if it has a bone widget. That should allow you to line up the bone again. That said, wouldn't it be easier for you to copy paste the pose from the first to the last frame? Maybe I am still misunderstanding your workflow. Would be great if you can comment on that

Well i'm a 2d animator so i use the motion path as a timing chart. I make the first two frames , generate a motion path , Then i can do a straight ahead type animation. deciding the spacing as i go.. In the video here , the green start of the line doesn't exactly tell me how the path will change but it shows me the angle, and direction i'm coming from, and helps as a visual aid as i go down the line.

I do copy the pose/keyframe on the first frame. It's copied here in the vid too.

This is using only the bones position and scale. pixeldrain.com/u/heHhRstW

Here is a example how i would adjust it down the line. pixeldrain.com/u/jQpeC7Qh

I genuinely thought that's what it was for , and for me it works perfectly. If the path updated in real time that would be even better honestly but it didn't bother me.

ah I think I understand now. You just want a line from the start of the transform to the current position so you have a reference on how far you moved. You kind of get that when using the gizmos, but when using the hotkeys you have no indication on where the transform started from.

I think it should be possible to draw a line or 2 points for that whichever you prefer. Whichever you think fits best, I can discuss this with the other developers since this could be useful to other areas too.

The ideal solution would probably be to onion skin the shape at the start so you can compare the visual delta, not just the origin point motion.

Yeah just 2 points, one from where you were to the point you are moving, and the other to the next keyframe would be amazing. Oh , yeah i also notice onion skins don't work on greasepencil objects from bone transforms. Only From it's own keyframes so i never use it. But a universal onion skin would help all areas. Though i feel like some people would want both for greasepencil.
