Grease Pencil v3 - Custom Library pinned all modes

I duplicate Ink Pen, Sculpt Grab, and Replace color to User Library. Make all "brushes" in User Library visible/selectable regardless of the mode I am in. If I select Grab brush, then change to Sculpt Mode automatically.

Honestly...i don't see them doing this. Because it would make Grease pencil function differently than other aspects of blender.

As for now your best bet is to use one of these add ons.

  1. blendermarket.com/products/go-panel

2) blendermarket.com/products/gp-animator-desk

They both have side panels that automatically switch to mode for you.

Everything about his is wrong. Because there is already an addon (often being sold) should have no impact whether something is implemented into Blender.

People have been asking for automatic mode switching for decades. Because there are addons that do this demonstrates the need. When the custom library was being developed, most people assumed it would function as a "build your own toolbar" that could remain on the screen and selecting from the custom toolbar would select that brush and change to the correct mode if needed.

People may not use Blender the same way you do. They might add a cube, subdivide it, smooth it, sculpt it, use proportional editing to pull vertices and faces, paint faces. Manual mode switching back and forth to do these tasks reduces efficiency and creativity.

I do not want to spend half of my time on a drawing finding modes in menus. Each time requires 3 clicks at a minimum. For example I need to select Sculpt mode, then click Brush from the toolbar, then select Clay brush from the library bar. Much more efficient if there was a Clay brush on my custom brush library and with 1 click it would activate Sculpt mode and the Clay brush.

I might have different custom libraries for 2D Grease Pencil drawings and 3D modelling and Texture Painting and perhaps a mix.

It seems the Blender dev team had the inkling of an idea, but the implementation of the idea is clunky and this pinned brushes and mode switching addition would make it exponentially more useful.

I'VE been wanting this since i started using grease pencil 3 years ago. i didn't say they SHOULDN'T add this. I said they most likely won't. My feelings coming from my interaction with the devs. They don't like adding things that give special functions to specific things in blender. They want all Things to act the same. So if they added this it would have to work for all other Aspects of blender. You're asking for this specifically for Grease Pencil.

I was just giving you alternatives you can use right now that does what you want. I have used both of these. But Go panels the most because it does work on every. Sure, it would be nice if they added this. I'm happy to be wrong. Good luck.

Your point is taken, I did post it under the Grease Pencil category. Maybe the UI category is more appropriate. :)
