bone head on x & z axis.
Currently Blender only has bone head on the bone's y-axis, it would be incredibly useful if it allow the user to set the head on x and z axis as it allow for rigs to be compatible between other software like Unreal engine without having orientation/mirroring problems.

we are aware of the limitation and want to lift it, but currently there is no timeline for it.
There was a big discussion about this earlier this year here , the main problem is that other software uses a joint based bone system, while blender does not. Attached to the linked discussion is an addon that emulates the display of bones from other software, but it would be great to have some way of displaying them in default Blender.
As it is discussed in thread, unfortunately its not only displaying but some tools like weigh assignment or mirroring assume blender way of bones, so it would be bigger project.
