Add scale factor to shrinkwrap modifier

Currently the shrinkwrap modifier has a target mesh and it tries to match its surface using that target mesh surface. But you have no fine control over how much. You either have it follow the target mesh completely or not at all. Vertex groups allow you to adjust where but not how much.

My suggestion is simple. Add a scale factor to the shrinkwrap modifier so you can control the strength. At 1.0 scale it works like now. At 0.5 it moves the vertices halfway towards the target. At 2.0 it overshoots. At 0.01 it barely moves the verts at all. At -1 it goes away from the target.

This could be useful for things like retopo, matching simple mesh over noisy pointcloud data, animation and it also work as different way of simplify geometry. As you can control the strength of the shrinkwrapping effect you can create smoother shapes from noisy dense data without having to manually fix individual problematic spots in edit mode. It also gives a cool tool that you can use to non-destructively scale meshes along axis.

The same proposal. Influence factor for many modifiers. But devs will be busy with nodes-all

Workaround until this happens is to add your shrinkwrap modifier, then Apply as Shape Key, then change the intensity of the shape key.

I agree, an Influence slider would be very useful as you could continuously adjust it without going into edit mode and clicking Apply to see the result.

you also said: "Vertex groups allow you to adjust where but not how much"

this is not true in my experience : ), you can actually assign values between 0 and 1 and even use weight paint.

You can indeed paint vertex with, say 0.5. But 0.5 wont let the vertex move halfway shrinkwrap, but every vertex that has a non-zero value would move full-way on to the surface.
