Curve with Bevel Depth loses Curve data in Geometry Nodes
Description: When I used a Curve object with Bevel Depth (Depth in Curve > Geometry), I found that the object was internally converted to a Mesh. As a result, when this Curve was passed into Geometry Nodes via Group Input, it no longer had Curve data — only Mesh data.
This caused errors such as:
Input Geometry has unsupported Type: Mesh
when trying to use nodes like Curve to Points.
At first this was very confusing to me, because visually the object was still a Curve, and Bevel Depth is a very common feature I often use to give thickness to curves. I didn’t expect that simply enabling Depth would remove the Curve component and make Curve nodes unusable. It took me a while to realize that the Depth setting was the cause.
Why this felt problematic for me:
Bevel Depth is a standard feature, and I used it without realizing it would change the data type.
The error message was not very informative — it only said "unsupported type: Mesh," without any clue that Depth caused the conversion.
Because of that, I ended up spending extra time debugging my node setup.
Possible improvements:
Show a clearer warning message, e.g. “This Curve has Bevel/Depth applied and is treated as Mesh in Geometry Nodes”.
Add an option to still access the original Curve data even if Depth is enabled.
Or at least add a tooltip in the Curve properties panel explaining that Depth makes the object Mesh-only inside Geometry Nodes.

I couldn’t find a corresponding proposal on Right-Click Select, so I’m posting this here in case it helps clarify the problem for developers and other users.
I really enjoy using Blender every day, and I deeply respect and appreciate all the work the developers put into making it such a powerful and inspiring tool. I sincerely hope this feedback can be useful for future development and improvements.
