Ask which collection newly created or imported object(s) should be put in
When you import objects or add new objects from the Add panel, Blender should bring up a window where you can choose the right collection to put the object(s) in.
This is important because tons of times I realize something is not in the right collection because another collection was selected/active at the time of importing or adding objects. This change would save a lot of time and confusion from keeping the project organized.
I guess this function would go on the nerves of people who have small projects or don't really care about collections. So it could be an optional thing to be activated from the Preferences.

I agree with that this is a returning inconvenience and I wondered the same, but I don't like this solution. Because these popups are pretty disturbing and an extra step which is basically redundant. The real issue is not NOTICING what collection is selected or haven forgotten to select one. So I think the solution should be in making that more clear in the interface so we can't miss that. Not by adding another step and some popup window which disturbs the workflow.
I think an important reason why we don't easily notice in what collection we currently are is because trees can be very long and deep. So perhaps a simple way to more easily see where we are in the tree would be to display this as a path somewhere. A hierarchical path to the selected object. Which is only a single line to display somewhere in the interface. Sometling like:
Collection/studio/Lights/Light 1If that would be shown somewhere, like right above the outliner list, we could always directly see where we are in the hierarchy, independent of how many items there are inside collections or where the list view of the outliner is at. And when paths are too deep they could always be shortened using
..., as long as the last collection name and last object name are visible.
