Bug or Feature? Subtracting Masks
If you wanna subtract from a mask with (line stroke, lasso, box, poly, line) you can hold "CTRL" before drawing/dragging. But if you start drawing the mask and then "CTRL" it does not subtract.
It would be better either way you subtract if holding "CTRL" independently if hold it before or during masking.
Reproduce.
- Draw a mask in Sculpt room
- Pick a one of the tool mentioned above. E. g. mask with poly line
- Hold "CTRL" and subtract from the mask above. That part will be subtracted
- Start masking then hold "CTRL". That part will be added.

In the "box mask" you can't use ctrl at all.
I understand the thinking here but it's strange for Blender to "switch" modes as you're making a stroke. To my understanding Blender follows how this works in other software.
This feature would create an inconsistency between masking and sculpting brushes (such as Draw) if sculpting brushes were to remain unchanged. I would also suspect that this feature is not possible. When using a sculpt brush it appears that the surface is deformed per "space," not per stroke. Which means that Blender is not storing the Add effect of the brush at the same that you are drawing the Subtract effect, and vice-versa. This means that Blender would need to reprocess the opposite effect every time you lift/press control while drawing a stroke. This processing time would also apply to mask.
I do not believe we need this feature and it seems impractical to develop it. Simply be decisive when drawing a stroke and use undo when you need it.
