Student Mode Option: (Disable custom Key Mapping)

Many times in my class students accidentally rekey the controls in Blender.

[ For example, I just helped a student who accidentally changed his LMB to open new file. Sometimes they'll rekey the LMB to insert keyframe. ]

Personal customization is one of Blender's strengths, and yet it has caused some unnecessary frustration.

Would it be possible to create an option to disable the ability to make custom shortcuts?

It could be a student mode, that would prevent beginners from creating custom shortcuts.

Thank you for your consideration!

Guardrails for students for very basic mistakes seems like unnecessary clutter for everyone else, as much as I'm all for educational aids. Would it not be enough to instruct students to hit "Restore" in the keymap instead?

What about "Lesson 1: Don't Touch That."

Like the other comments suggest, it would only introduce more clutter.

If you wish to always use a custom keymapping or ensuring the default one is used, you may do a little python script, resetting the keymapping at every blender start or project load. This would probably be the preferrable solution for your use case.

Code could look like this for resetting the keymap (disclaimer: GPT-generated):

import bpy
keyconfig = bpy.context.window_manager.keyconfigs
keyconfig.active = keyconfig.default
bpy.ops.wm.save_userpref()
