Collection instancing origin (dynamic offset) by object
Collection instancing duplicates objects by the world space transforms which is not very handy because objects should be placed at zero origin or an offset should be set for the origin of duplication, and if the origin change the offset should be set for the new origin.... it would be handy if there was an pick object option bellow collection offset to get the offset dynamically from an origin object. this way collection members could be parented to that object and easily move around as a compound object without ruining the duplication

While not fully related and as flexible, you can edit collection origin separately for a collection instance. Objects themselves won't be affected.
* @Mr Zak * yes, the offset can be set manually or set from 3d cursor the problem is if i move collection objects only for arrangement and house keeping in scene all the instances will also change position reflecting the new world space position which is unwanted except that i set a new offset..
* @yasharjk * I just wrote a similar post on Blender Exchange, I hope they implement this. It's kind of a pain to deal with. Seems like someone should be able to script this and put in some simple math.
* @tom * Absolutely needed, hope implemented soon.
* @yasharjk * I already mentioned that the first time I wrote it. You can move the origin of collection instance without moving origins of other instances of that same collection. Select collection instance, Search > set origin menu, set to whatever you want. Simple as that.
It doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement for that design. But it's possible to obtain that behaviour
I just tested this. It does not work as you describe.
I sometimes develop several collections of objects side by side to later explore instances of those collections in different juxtapositions. When I instantiate those collections, I cannot change the transform data of those collections anymore because it would ripple to the instances. AFAICT the idea would be to develop individual assets at world origin from then on. Ideally, there would be the possibility of having a nested recursion of boxes with local coordinates like multiple pottery turntables whenever instances of collections get used (which is generally useful info, in my opinion). I think having such a collection leader would be a step in that direction.
