Adding NPR Filter Nodes in the Compositor

In ZBrush, NPR is accomplished by applying NPR filters on top of rendered images. I wonder if we can do the same in Blender. Like adding some NPR filter nodes in the Compositor, that take the normal, albedo, etc. into account (similar to the current denoise node). With these nodes, you can achieve NPR without re-rendering your images. What do you guys think?

Rather than add node groups that don't allow artistic control over much of anything, why not take a look at Marius' proposal for improving the speed of node groups, and you might enjoy using some of the node groups he mentions there. EDIT: this isn't as much of a proposal as I remember -- but I thought he was asking for node-groups to be pre-compiled and re-used as a speedup, which IIRC is the goal for the new node trees in the Everything Nodes project, and I think it's already the case in Cycles/EEVEE.

And perhaps a better way of implementing your proposal is creating a node that allows users to implement G'Mic filters which are fast and allow full customizablity through scripting.

* @Josephbburg * I agree that simply adding specific NPR options wouldn’t provide enough flexibility, and the implementing G’Mic filters would be a massive upgrade - like the BlinkScript Node in Nuke. Currently the compositing nodes is pretty limited to what you can do in Shader Nodes and Animation Nodes. It seems like there was a G’Mic filter at some point, but doesn’t seem to have been updated for a few years: github.com/bitsawer/blender-custom-nodes would love to see that revived!

There’s also the BNPR Beer/Malt renderer, which does allow custom shaders, but it doesn’t seem to be compatible with EEVEE/Cycles, which seems like a disadvantage imho.
