Depth of Field foreground and background
With Depth of field it currently focuses on (as far as I know) whatever object or selected distance. Blurring both foreground and background.
I was thinking of having an option for blur strengths and distances for both. I.E. Foreground blur, and depth so if you wanted to you can keep whatever is in front of the distance in focus as well or more focus than whatever is in the background or reverse.
I do not think this is an insane request but maybe it is.
I know compositor many will shout look can we just stop with shouting that when a few settings here and there can save multiple minutes and multiple renders. You guys act as if the compositor is the be all end all and nothing it can do should be improved at least a majority of the time. It is your go-to, golden duct tape. UE4s google it, etc. You cannot always be so reliant on the compositor. I know thousands just said you want to bet okay limit the software usage to intermediate and advance users then. I know people should learn it but people coming from other software and newbs do not know how to use it properly. Hence why this is considered making simple stuff hard. Screaming if you want to do that use the compositor and 50 nodes, and dozens of renders will only run newbs off. Quit looking at it from your POV and step into other's shoes.
I personally never used any compositing ever (beyond some photoshop masking) and I am expected to put 50 percent of my workload into it. Not happening it is asinine to hide simple features behind dozens of nodes and a compositor that will take months to come close to learning. Yes, I get it is very very customizable if you learn it but it is asinine to think everyone wants to learn it, especially for something that can be considered simple. I know coding is not simple, I broke a nail once, and crashed my computer. Look you guys offered us a chance for suggestions and coded the whole program if you don't want suggestions that require coding shut this down if you do not want to code anymore stop at 2.9 I dunno what else to tell you. I personally do 3D art because I love doing it not sitting in a 2D graph panel fiddling with nodes hoping something works for a render I made 3 days ago. I assume some of you coders do the same thing you enjoy your work. Crashes are not special even full computer crashes, Blender crashed my entire computer over 5 times now crashing your computer is not special. Sorry for my rant but I am tired of hearing compositor compositor compositor yes it is grand but 50 nodes dozens of renders, something that requires mastering to get really good peachy results seriously.
So again as I suggested instead of compositor this that and the other a plugin, a setting, a node, you choose the apt wording. It is nice to have convenient features for doing 3D a few buttons, not some mastery of something that is not in any regard in the default 3D GUI. I get it compositor is the tits I truly do and I can see the potential in it but it should not be the end all be all. Relying on the compositor as so many insist is at this point lazy development. Simplicity is gold, not a spiderweb of good luck making what you want. We already spend hours rendering, we do not want to spend days screwing with nodes to make it look pretty. It should be easy as changing render settings, camera settings to get what you want. Otherwise rendering, setting your scene up right, setting up lighting camera is a pointless endeavor if it will not come out how you want. I get touch-ups but to make things work that should work/should be a feature is asinine.
You guys can get pissy with me for disliking this whole throw 50 percent of your work into the compositor and hope you can figure crap out notion, that is your opinion and this is mine.

The only people entitled to this kind of attitute are ones who regularly donate to Blender. Do you donate?
* @thinsoldier * I can play your game as well the only one allowed to reply is the ones who kiss my ass daily do you do it? Every time I make a suggestion I am told the compositor can do it if you add these 50 nodes to it or master it. I can have any goddamn attitude I want. Simple.
If you know how to use photoshop you can render without depth of field (renders faster) and include a depth or mist pass. You can put your render in photoshop and use the depth pass image as the input for the camera blur filter. You can then mask over the foreground to reveal an unblurred copy of the original render on the layer below.
* @thinsoldier * Fair point. Still this option is available in many depths of field software.
You're the one getting premptively pissy for the entirety of your post for no reason.
I can see maybe adding this option for eevee. If there is a way to do it in the real world with real a camera and lense I suggest learning that and seeing if the same approach can be reproduced with a camera in Cycles. If it cannot then the very first thing that should be done is fixing cycles and the camera so that it is possible.
* @thinsoldier * I have had it happen while taking pictures but I dunno how the hell auto focus did it lol.
* @crop.circles.studio * Learn how to use your camera instead of learning compositing nodes. Then take what you learned about photography and apply it to the camera settings in Blender. It should work. If it doesn't work, file a bug.
