Expose object Custom Properties to Materials

It could be really useful to be able to expose the object custom properties to materials. It's possible to use the object pass_index in material but that blocks you from using that value as it should be used and it is a really hacky way of doing stuff.

lsscpp

You can already do this with drivers

@Lsscpp: Unfortunately you can't. Driver would change the value for the material itself. Custom property can be different per object.

@vitprochazka64: You can put drivers on custom properties.

It's possible to add drivers to a value on a material or a custom property on an object. What I need is to have a possibility to control aspects of a shared material based on the objects properties. There are other ways of doing this. For instance: reference values by "relative" paths, referring to a property that the material is applied to.

You can do something like this with Vertex Colors, but that's a workaround. I often re-use node networks with minor changes, and I wish I could use per-object overrides for some of them. I wonder if this could be an optimization, too? Or maybe it isn't possible because it would be a performance hit? I donno.

Dang, this isn’t already possible? I was planning on doing just that, hadn’t actually tried yet however.
