Resize/merge/duplicate areas with mouse anywhere in the area depending on its position
Some Linux distros have this functionality where you hold some modifier key and it lets you move and resize windows with mouse being anywhere in the window. AltDrag is a program for this functionality on Windows. This makes it way more effortless and pleasant to manage windows.
This could be used for Blender's areas. It would be way more convenient than to aim for the little corners every time.
Alt+Shift and Alt +Ctrl and MMB drag could be used for that as they are free in the default keymap. One could be for resizing areas, another for duplicating/merging depending on which way the mouse is dragged like it is now with the corners.

We already have a few hotkeys to control an editor's content:
we could have something like:
I wanted to do this with Python, but I don't think it's possible to resize areas using Blender's Python API... π
Wait a second... Hotkeys... There are operators for that in the API! πIt might be possible with Python alone. Hm... π€
