When Merging down - Snap over hanging verts to Edges

In other 2d Art software when you merge down a layer that's masked to another it crops the over hanging parts to the shape of the masked layer.

It would really help if there was something like that here. You can already select the over hanging verts and snap to cursor, but Maybe when merging down over hanging verts could automatically snap to the edge position of the layer it was masked to ? (So the verts won't be changed for things like interpolation)
