Composit File Output should make frame numbering optional.
The compositing File Output enforces the following format:
{base path}/{file name}{frame number}.{extension}
. Allthough it supports
#
for formating the
{frame number}
there is no way to skip the frame number in the filename.
Allthough sublte, this limits non-animation workflows where you might want to save several different passes to specific files that is then picked up by another application or process.
Appart from the unwanted and annoying number in the filename, this frame dependency is error prone as accidently switching active frame is easy and will result different filenames.
mymaskpass1.png
is suddenly not updating because blender now saved
mymaskpass82.png
. This both clutters the folder, and adds a of unwanted interactions.
Considering how easy it is to fix this, it could be a great pain saver
at low effort. No
#
in the filename should result in zero file numbers, or add a checkbox.
Omit frame number
.

This issue is currently a huge pain in our workflow exporting PBR maps from Blender with specific filenames.
checkbox to omit would be better, otherwise thousands of addons will break, plus it'll be a pain to modify all those addons to specify the correct number of #'s programmatically.
This would be quite helpful for my workflow. Having to go through and manually remove the numbers from every filename is a pain.
Or a lock on the timeline to keep from moving from current frame.
you can set the start and end frame to a the same, it "locks" but you still have the unwanted number in you filename
I need this
