Vertex Group Collections ?

Hey there, I was just working on a rig with groom on it, and noticed how amazing it would be if inside the vertex group menu of an object, we could assemble multiple groups by the use we give them. for exemple :

  • groom
  • texture
  • rig deform
  • etc.

This is not a must have, it would just be nice to have hehe

Thank you for reading

There's a number of obvious features I would like to see before this, such as:

Removing empty vertex groups (WITH option to include/exclude those locked), shift/ctrl selecting multiple groups and moving them around, automatic generation of symmetric pairs if an empty group doesn't already exist, an option to empty selected groups (without having to select all verts and set to 0), fixing the 'active' vertex group selected (sometimes it isn't what's shown and performs operations on the wrong one and undo and weight paint mode can be buggy concerning them), search vertex groups from the vertex groups dropdown instead of having to use the outliner and have names also match bones, etc.., an easy "merge vertex groups" button to merge them like layers in image editing programs with layer blend modes but by default add, drag and move vertex groups around, and batch rename selected groups.

Some of these may be able to tie into a collection feature to select all inside a collection and perform operations.

Ever since they have auto normalize as a feature, it’s unclear if it means it’ll normalize bones attached vertex grps, but what about for other means like GN weight paints in the list? With folders, it be nice that those auto normalize feature works for per folders so it doesn’t accidentally account for fx weight paints.

You're wrong...! It IS absolutely a must.😹Thanks for remembering.

Being able to have collections/folders for vertex groups, shape keys, UV maps etc would be useful.

Having a 100+ vertex groups is not atypical, sorting them into collections would be nice. Just like we sort assets/objects in the outliner.
