Pause Viewport on F12 Render

Users should be given the option to have the viewport render pause automatically when they start an F12 render, and inversely resume the viewport render when the F12 render finishes, or is canceled. I've written a simple Python add-on that demonstrates the concept.

Current problem:

Leaving the viewport render running while an F12 render is in progress significantly slows down the F12 render time, and it is not always clear for users (especially beginners) that the viewport render is still running. For example, depending on the resolution of the render, or where the cursor is when F12 is pressed, the Render window may cover enough of the UI that the viewport render progress is not clearly seen, or the Pause/Resume button isn't visible. Likewise, even if a user knows they should pause before rendering, if a user initiates F12 renders frequently during their process, needing to click Pause, F12, and then Resume again can become tedious, and is something that could be handled in the background by Blender.

Arguments against this approach:

I've been told that Blender includes the Lock Interface operator that locks Blender during F12 renders. This seems to effectively pause viewport renders, but it also locks EVERYTHING including buttons that should inherently be available during an F12 render such as the View Render button at the bottom of the Blender interface. For those just looking to pause the Viewport render to save on processing power, this can cause more problems than it solves.

Others have suggested that rendering via the command line bypasses the need to worry about the GUI, but I'd argue that this is a fairly large workflow side-step, and not actually a solution to bouncing between Viewport and F12 renders.

Upvoted. I would argue the command line method can be simplified to not as large of a side-step (Flamenco and add-ons make this a matter of a couple clicks), but having this as opt-in is pretty non-intrusive and helpful for slower, older computers. I'd be curious about the dev's feedback.

The PR I created for this idea was just merged today. Thanks for the interest!

Any thoughts from the devs?

They already have a "Lock Interface". It's located in Render > Lock Interface .If you enable that, everything will pause except the rendering.

Please read my full post. I already address this argument.
