Edit linked library Suggestion

The Edit Linked Library add-on is great. The only thing I'd like to see added to it, is the ability for the add-on to recognize when a change has been made to the linked asset after saving, then all you have to do is reload it. Much like an X-ref in auto cad. This would save time from having the add-on needing to open the linked asset again just to make the update.

I've never heard of this addon, but it could listen for the master file's last saved timestamp changing, and then check for modifications that need reloading.

Bit of extra computation though, might just be best to have a button 'update local', which the user can press when a colleague advises of new updates.

Hi, can you explain this clearer? I do not use the other software. But I use the Extension, and it is great indeed.

In its Tab, there is a Button that swaps, from, either, jump to the original Asset's Blend file, either, jump back to the Blend file in which the Asset is in use (e.g., Linked). And then, there is also an Auto Save Option in the latter Tab's UI.

Making changes, and Saving the Asset Blend file the vanilla way, or even by Enabling the Addon's Auto Save Option, seems to make the updates automatically (although I'm not absolutely sure when the "Auto Save" completes the Auto-Saving Operation, maybe just when clicking the Button to go back to the major scene?).

Because of those, I do not understand what is the proposed feature, hence can vote.

When working in a Blend file with linked assets, the way the Edit Linked Library addon works is like this. If I want to edit a linked asset, I click the "Edit Linked Asset" toggle. Blender then proceeds to open the asset. Either in a new blender instance or automatically saving your current file, closing it, then opening the asset to make changes. That's is cumbersome. I would like to have my asset open already, work on it, then go into the main Blend file and Blender to automatically understand that I have made changes, then just be able to reload the linked asset. Have you worked with Autocad? If you understand how X-references work, that's how I'd like the Edit Linked Library tool to work.
