Store Grease Pencil strokes in the Asset Browser

I would love an option to store Grease Pencil strokes in the Asset Browser, generate previews, then be able to drag and drop different strokes, like different drawings of a character, in a Grease Pencil object, then key-frame them on the timeline to create a starting point to work from, this could be a huge time saver for 2D animation work IMHO!

I think this is already being worked on (and is hopefully close to being finished) - developer.blender.org/D15271

Sure looks like it, great news, thanks for sharing!

oh that's a good idea, but it might already be possible..

well, what if you separate out the stroke or collection of strokes you want (whether they fix separate operator to work in grease pencil object, or if you just duplicate the object to delete the parts you don't want, etc, however you get them alone)

and then mark that separated GP object as an asset, then, when you want to add that stroke to a scene, you drag the gp object in, and join it to your other drawing if need be with ctrl+j?

This could be a cool workaround for sure, thanks for the suggestion, but I think that saving GP strokes in the asset browser directly and be able to drag them in an existing GP object would make for a faster workflow, what do you think? 🤔

I do think it's a good idea, we have other "subsections" of things that can go in the asset browser, like node groups and things, so I don't see why not

desksonmars shared a link to a patch proposal that seems to address just what I proposed, seems to be close to completion, which is great news ! developer.blender.org/D15271
