Long press Space key for tools menu.
It would be easier for some people than pressing shift+space.
Some people switch the preference setting back and forth between play/pause and tools menu based on what they plan to spend most of their day working on.
Long press for tools menu would be a nice alternative for everyone I think.

I don't think long press keys are a good thing. This is not a good way to think ux.
U can choose Spacebar for tools in preferences. by doing so the Spacebar will use for tool menu and Shift+ Spacebar for animation.
