Selection of mesh faces by material should not be additive by default

Yet another one of the infuriating Blender "features", which leads to way more errors than benefits:

Select button in material properties panel is additive by default, without any warning. So it does not do what it says. It does not select the faces which have the active material assigned, but instead ADDS to the existing selection.

This leads to numerous selection errors, as user needs to constantly remember to manually clear the selection prior to performing next one. This is extremely inconsistent with pretty much all the other parts of Blender, where selections do not behave this way.

Solution: Select button should do what it says - select the faces which have the material of currently selected material slot assigned by overriding previous selection completely. Additive selection should be preserved by holding down the Shift key, in the exact same manner the selection of any elements work in almost all other Blender's editors.
