Viewport Shading Presets (Updated)
Would viewport shading presets for solid view be useful to you?
In addition to all the existing settings there, more could be added in the future, making presets even more useful:
- I'm developing multi-layer matcaps (with matcap layers blended based on curvature) and that adds a few settings of its own.
- I would also like to have EEVEE's "Contact Shadows" (to simulate main light source shadows for matcaps and "studio lights") and "Ambient Occlusion" (with much better quality than what we get with cavity) implemented in solid view mode. Both are screen-space effects which makes their performance independent of scene complexity. Perfect for sculpting.
Shading presets should be easy to implement. In fact, I could do it myself if people like the idea.
Edit:
Based on feedback and further thought, I added another alternative to this.
Instead of having presets affect only solid mode settings, the alternative proposal is to have them affect the whole set of viewport related options. I updated the image to show both suggestions.
Let me know what you think about this. Which do you prefer? Do you have ideas to improve this?

IIRC presets were considered useful from the UI team too. I think it would be awesome, also to have them called up by a shortcut/piemenu
* @ Lsscpp * You can add a preset to the "Quick Favorites" menu and invoke it from there.

I just realize this is pretty much related to my proposal
Also some good news ther is a simple addon that saves the presets

Agree. Presets will be very handy!
I think combination of Shading and Overlays settings would be better. That way you have task oriented presets you can switch quickly.
* @Bartek Moniewski * yes!
It's also possible to encompass all viewport shading options: object types visibility, gizmos, overlays, x-ray, mode, and mode-specific settings. That could be even more useful. What do you think?
