Knife tool's huge potential combined with the new blueprint tool feature.(perfect arc draw feature & ruler/angle measurements)
Hello guys. I would like to propose a feature that would make the knife tool more powerful, although it already is.
In my opinion, I believe the knife tool is one of the greatest asset blender has. I am hopeful that this tool would be soon upgraded closer to its greater potential.
I could list a lot of features just by using the knife tool alone but one of the crucial things that I hope blender would add soon are the draw functionality w/c can be implemented through the blueprint tool.
Considering that blender is certainly in my opinion starting to be the industry standard for mesh modelling, It would be useful and helpful if we could implement the most basic and user friendly precision tools available and known around the community which are commonly found in cad tools but can easily be used by non cad users. It can even be considered essential to architecture and hard surface modelling.
These are the following critical features:
1.)Ruler/angle measurement during knife tool implementation.
2.)Arc tangent draw feature implementation in knife tool. (Can also be use in creaitng mesh or curves. Not necessarily exclusive for knife tool.)
It would be awesome for blender to have the ability to create perfect/calculated arc measurements easily with the help of these tools.
3.)Local line draw constraint for knife tool. (Currently only global is available.)
I hope we could have some tools similar to these in the near future. Thank you blender dev team.

The video shows drawing curves. These features make most sense in relation to curves, not the polygonal knife tool. Are you aware of the Knife Project feature?
* @thinsoldier * That is what I mean. It doesn't have to be curves. What I am implying is a feature that creates lines or curves without the need for the curve tool.
curve tool is not reliable enough for basic precise measurements/dimension constraints. We all know that these arc tangent tools in basic cad uses angle constraints which makes everything more precise and consistent.
Just imagine those curves in the video being drawn in a manner like how bevels are created manually in blender. You can assign the numbers of segments.
The most important thing is the angle constraint that arc tangent tools provide. Blender almost already have all the fundamental tools in creating basic precise modelling , the only thing left is the arc tangent tool.
It is pretty hard task to consistently make accurate angled curves/arcs without the help of a precise program. This will be helpful in basic architecture and hard surface modelling. There is a great advantage of having a mesh that includes some elements of basic precision.
I am aware that there are possible ways to achieve this in blender but those available ways would probably require a significant amount of time just to finish at least one task.
for the industry blender is not a new standard to draw.
Blender lacks step output file format, making it hard for use in the maker world. We can do stl but the rest of the industry (the non 3d printing world) dont like to work with it. I notice Blender is a great tool to work with till you contact a manufacturer to let his machines work with your digital files (CAD/CAM).
* @peter.boos * download stepper addon to export step files
* @peter.boos * You may have a point. I may also have used the term architecture too loosely. What I am implying specifically is the basic functions of mesh modelling which can also benefit the basic architecture side of the industry which includes archviz and hard surface modelling.
I agree with you that blender will be no way in the near future become a cad alternative and I am having a hard to to believe if there is a possibility. But when it comes to basic mesh modelling/asset creation, I believe blender is on top of the list and probably starting to be the standard.
Sketchup does have a lot of advantages when it comes to more technical side of things in architecture but when we are talking about the simple to slightly complex, blender is starting to catch up.
The feature I am proposing is not mainly for cad/complex architecture purpose, instead this is mainly for the functionality imporvement of blenders 3d modelling tools.
nice one
