Editor Type Tabs
A bit of a paradigm shift for organizing editors in Blender. This type of system would allow for quick switching between editor types. It would be especially useful for things like switching between object & world shader editors, or the NLA editor, curves, & dope sheet. It would also allow you to tuck the outliner in the properties editor area if you only need to access it occasionally. If done right, this could save a lot of space and time.
It's a bit out there for now, so just a thought for fun :)

If you think choosing from the editor type menu is too slow, start remembering the shortcuts. Shift F1-F12 will switch directly to another editor.
I don't get it. Isn't this what screen layouts do?
* @Josephbburg * I think what he is aiming for would be comparable to dockable floating palettes like in GIMP or Krita where the user can group different palettes together.
* @Shane Ambler * Ahh, I just love it when I'm drawing, and a stroke goes just off screen and suddenly the entire window pops out.
