Layer Color Node
Blender is pretty great with nodes, but can be better.
It could be great to have a layer color node to mix textures like in this example.

This would be a great feature. Used it in C4D and its really useful.
How does this differ from Mix nodes?
@Jason van Gumster: This is photoshop like layers stacking. The Mix node is pretty basic.. C4D also has a similar layer system, even more powerful..
@Jason van Gumster: It's a pain to add texture + nodes etc, it's easier to use a node like this.
You can compare this to principled shader, we can create our own shaders but it's easier with the principled.
@Cédric Lepiller: I can see the utility a bit, but I'm personally not a fan of this approach. I don't think I've ever come across an instance where layers were powerful than nodes. I've never had the trouble you're describing with Mix nodes. Of course, I'm just me, so I can't speak for anyone else.
@Jason van Gumster: You are not every Blender users! And go use nodes to make a layer with 5 or 7 maps and then, tell me it's easy and fast ;) All the other software have a layer color, people ask for it when it's not there.
Sorry but it's not because you don't like or use a different and slow approach that works for you that this proposal is only a bit interesting.
When you work your shaders making everything by nodes is a waste of time. I don't have time to waste.
@Cédric Lepiller: To be fair to me, I was very clear that I was speaking only for myself. I can only give my personal opinion. I said that I can see how other people might find a feature like this useful. It's just not for me... and that's fine.
@Jason van Gumster: I'm there with you, that I don't mind to build stuff myself with nodes. The modularity and flexibility is very nice. Requests like this remind me of a recent discussion about more powerful node groups. One can of course wrap such a layer node into a group, but it would require a separate group definition specific to the the number of layers to use (beside some other shortcomings). The discussion I mean was here:
