No more than one consecutive instance of "Toggle Editmode" should be recorded in the undo history

Some people like me like to switch back and forth between the Object mode and the Edit mode frequently to check how things look without the wireframe and with the modifiers on. This litters the undo history considerably and wastes a lot of memory dedicated to holding the undo stages. In the end, you just have fewer undo stages to work with. Image I see no practical reason to hold all the instances of switching between the modes in the undo history. If a user switches the mode and continues working in the other mode, it makes sense to record one instance of "Toggle Editmode". However, if a user switches the mode and than does it again without doing anything worthy of recording in the undo history in between, there's no reason to record two instances of "Toggle Editmode" into the undo history, because nothing has changed.

This also applies to some other actions that cancel out themselves when done twice in a row, like toggling the visibility of the same object or the same modifier.

The simplest way to implement this is to check if the previous undo history record was "toggle editmode" every time the user toggles the edit mode. If it is, the previous instance of "toggle editmode" is undone instead of recording a new instance of "toggle editmode" into the undo history. Maybe someone will come up with a smarter way to do this.

This will also improve the experience of pressing Ctrl+Z repeatedly because the user will have fewer undo steps to go through before they reach the required point back in the history, while giving the user more meaningful undo steps overall. Pressing Ctrl+Z repeatedly is the surest way to make 2.8 crash for me, so reducing the number of times I need to do that would be a huge improvement.

Extra suggestion: map the undo history pop-up menu (the one in the picture) to Ctrl+Alt+Z by default. I think it needs its own hotkey because it's faster to select a history state from the list rather than to press Ctrl+Z several times going through all the "Toggle Editmode" stages (and if the file is large, it takes several seconds to undo a "Toggle Editmode" and sometimes it can cause a crash).

what about making it so that if you toggle edit mode, and then toggle back without editing anything, it removes the edit mode toggle from the undo history?

* @David Jeske * Yeah, that actually makes much more sense.

I also wish you could turn off the mouse scroll from being displayed in the info window.

Thumbs up for this one!

That's actually a really good idea. I didn't even think about that!

As for the extra suggestion, I disagree with that. Its universal to use CTRL + Z to undo by default and even Photoshop has recently caught up with that.

* @MizManFryingP * It was always ctrl+z, but Photoshop somewhere changes to ctrl+z for the first undo than ctrl+alt+z for more.

* @othoap * they changed it to just Ctrl+Z recently. But regardless, * @MizManFryingP * misunderstood me. I was talking about the hotkey that summons the list of the undo stages, like the one in the picture.

* @alphyn.dp * Ohhhhh I see what you mean. I absolutely agree then!

* @MizManFryingP * Totally agree. Vote up for the suggestion, but not for the extra suggestion (ctrl + alt + z)

* @Luis Perez * I think I wasn't clear enough about the extra suggestion. I edited the post to explain what I meant.
