Feature Request: Interlink SubDiv Modifiers to a Global SubD Modifier Control

As the title says I think an essential feature, would be to have a "Link to Global SubD" Checkbox in the SubD Modifier.

For users who want a quick render, we often use sub D modifiers then come in and change them all at the end.

Having a a link that allows me to say to blender, "Make all my models have 4 levels, or 5 levels of subdivisions over their local setting" would give absolute power in controlling level of detail when getting to production stages.

Look at it like playing a game. You have a quality slider to lower the quality. Same idea, except what I said above... You wouldnt always use it, but it would be nice when you want to quickly dump tons of sub divs into the scene for an extra beautiful render!

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding. Isn't this what the simplify system in the render panel achieves? You can set your various subD mods to the high value for rendering, but in your simplify settings you can restrict the viewport to using a much lower number while you're working. Then, when you're ready to render, either disable the simplify chheckbox, or adjust the number of subdivs allowed upwards.

* @craigdolphin * The simplify only reduces down the subdiv level to a maximum value and does it for every subdiv modifier. It can't add extra levels, nor can it set every target to the same level, nor cant it precisely target specific objects.

The idea of this proposal, as I understand, is to be able to mark some objects as "global subdiv", and having one global subdiv controler which will set the subdiv level for evey global subdiv marked objects. It's somewhat more flexible.

* @-L0Lock- * Then the question, then, would be... what happens if a user has both a global subdivision control and Simplify enabled? Which takes precedence? I'd assume Simplify, but that should certainly be clarified.

* @Jason van Gumster * Since the n°1 role of the simplify is to lighten the viewport for better display performance when working, IMHO it should override anything else indeed.

This will be pretty easy with node-based modifiers from the "everything nodes" project. I guess it doesn't make sense to have developers spending time on fixing the old system now. We just need to wait a little bit.
