Box select faster operation

Holding Down B key to start Box Selection and release to finish the selection. it will be much faster if we use both hands to do the operation instead of clicking and dragging at the same time with left mouse. Just try to imagine/practice the thing before responding to the proposal. some software also have it by default to first click to start and second click to end the selection becoz it gives the user to freely define the selection precisely. Also if we already have "Select Box" option then what is the need to have another operator like "Box Select".

Hi! I spent some time doing box selections (and learned a few things too!) and I think the proposal should also mention the modifier keys , Shift and Ctrl , as they would need to change as well.

Right now, it's:

  • Press B to enable box select > click 'n' hold > drag with mouse to adjust selection box > press 'n' hold Shift or Ctrl (optional) > release click to make selection.
  • Middle mouse click (wheel) can be used to make a null/empty selection... go figure.

With the suggestion implemented, it would become:

  • Press 'n' hold Shift or Ctrl (optional) + B to enable box select > move mouse to adjust selection box > click to make selection.
  • Middle mouse click (wheel) should cancel Box Select and move 3D Viewport as usual.

It's indeed simpler , but I would make this a user preference since it affects user accessibility . A great suggestion!

Notes:

  • Control adds to existing selection.
  • Shift subtracts from existing selection.
