Standalone Cycles file format
The wish is for Blender to be able to export a render-ready, standalone file that can be used directly by Cycles. This file should contain all evaluated geometry, textuers(embedded or linked) and settings needed to reproduce the scene.
This is inline with other renderers such as Arnold's ass, Vray's vrscene, and Renderman's rib.
Potential benefits:
-
More confidence when it comes to asset dependencies, since we can be certain that a single .cyc file has everything needed to produce the final image.
-
Better use of resources, especially on a farm, since scene gen and rendering are separate and can be better orchestrated.
-
Remove dependency on Python since no code evaluation is needed for rendering, which plugs a security hole.
