Support MacOS Delete key

Basic UX request here: Support the MacOS delete key by default

When learning Blender, UX basics should work so that we can follow tutorials and learn Blender without wasting hours...

  • Searching for why the delete key doesn't work on Mac
  • Reading endless replies
  • Searching for how keymaps work
  • Searching for why scroll wheels don't scroll the keymap window
  • Searching for how to make a scroll wheel scroll Blender windows on Mac etc

Cheers

Fairly certain that on a compact MacOS keyboard, like found on a laptop, Fn + Delete works because that results in a match for "delete" key. But Delete key on its own results in "Backspace" instead so doesn't match. Would be nice to deal with this in a bug report.

I'm on macOS, using an Apple Magic Keyboard and it works fine. Fn+Backspace too. This should probably be reported as bug, that hotkey should work out of the box.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm on Version 4.5.3 and haven't remapped anything but Delete and/or Function + Delete doesn't do anything - either on my MacBook Pro or an Apple Keyboard when connected to a display..

  • M4 MacOS 15.7.2
  • System Prefs > Use Function Keys as standard Function Keys = On
  • Blender Prefs > Keymap = Dropdown set to 'Blender'

Sanity check..

  • Create a new document
  • Select the Cube in Object Mode
  • Hit Delete or Function + Delete

Should this delete the cube?

In all the basic tutorials I've watched (v4.3 - v4.5) it deletes the object.

Cheers, Ben
