Interactive Snapping of 3d cursor placement

PROBLEM Currently, to set the location of the 3d cursor in the scene, you either left click an arbitrary position in 3d space, or use the shift + s menu (or pie menu) to snap cursor to selection, active element, centre, or grid point , etc.

The workflow is something like this for example if I want to set the cursor location to a vertex on an object is to first select the vertex, then enter Shift + s and choose cursor to selection. It is even more complicated if I want to snap to a grid point whereby I first click somewhere in 3d space close to the grid point, then hit shift + s then select cursor to grid.

PROPOSAL/REQUEST My suggestion is to implement an additional means of Interactively snapping the cursor to elements in the scene realtime. The process would be something like this;

  1. User Clicks on the "set 3d cursor location" icon on the tool shelf (or activates it with a keyboard shortcut - if any)
  2. While the user moves the mouse around the 3d view to set the 3d cursor location:( if snapping is activated), the mouse pointer snaps temporarily to elements in the scene(as the pointer hovers over the elements) , The snapping targets can either be vertices, faces or grid points (depending on the active snap settings), then when the user has 'snapped' (hovers his mouse pointer) to something he likes, then he can click to set the 3d cursor location.

ADDITIONAL INFO I currently use blender for Architectural Modelling, so I use snapping a lot. I only just started learning python a month ago, so I do not currently have the ability(if it is even possible with python) to implement this feature myself.

Thank you. James.

This is indispensible, especially because the fact that nobody seems to realize 3D cursor is a clumsy and slow feature to begin with. If you're going to keep it, than what you could do is at least make it movable with a powerful and fast snap.

learn this part of blender. It have snapping. Not the best and clear but powerful. Also Shift+RMB will move cursor without switching tool {attachment 190354jpg}

Perfect function !!! And better as in maya(pivot point)

I'm not 100% sure if I get it. But I believe a dynamic snap method, and even any method for architecture modeling (comparable to CAD or not) is welcome. The current focus of Blender is this: Workflow.
