UI | Better Multi-Monitor Support

Working with 3 monitors is usually a great thing. Blender however doesnt really make use of the full potential, as far as I know.

It would be great to see a better support of multi monitor worflows. This could include, that decoupled windows will remember there position and size after closing blender and opening a file again, as well as connecting the different window instaces together so that when you click on one, all other blender windows come to the foreground.

Currently, when you decoupled a window and close blender via the top righ close icon (on windows) only the window is beeing closed - blender is still running. I imagine to have a "main" window, which is responsible fore closing and minimizing the blender application and additional windows for distributing the different tools on your monitors.

I also would prefere a drag and drop kind of workflow for positioning different blender internal windows (3D-View, Node Editor, etc.) like in the Adobe programms instead or in addition to the split and merge feature that is currently avaliable.

This is more than one feature proposal in a single post. I'd recommend splitting up your proposals as they're not really related to each other.

@Jason van Gumster: Sorry for the inconvenience, but I am no programmer. Could you explain to me, what technicaly belongs together? I thought this is all related to how windows are beeing generated an treated in blender.

@manuel.bayern: As far as I can figure, there are three proposals:

  1. Remembering window sizes and positions. This might be a problem specific to Windows. On Linux, Blender seems to remember that stuff just fine for me.
  2. The concept of a "main" window that controls when Blender is iconified or shut down. I'm personally ambivalent on this feature. I wouldn't complain it existed, but I don't really need/want that kind of behavior myself.
  3. Drag and drop controls for areas within a window. I personally would only be in favor of such a feature if those areas weren't allowed to overlap. That is, Blender keeps it's non-blocking, tiling window manager model within a window. Being able drag to resize and swap areas would be nice, but I'm very much against overlapping.

I run into a related problem on my set up. I have two WUXGA monitors and each time I open Blender, I have to adjust the window to use the extra 120 pixels at the bottom of the screen. If Blender remembered the size and position of its window(s) it would remove this annoyance for me, too.
