Larger mouse dead zone around top and left sides of Editor Type menu.
When switching editors you can be sloppy with your mouse movements as long as the mouse moves outside of the bottom or right of the menu. If your mouse leaves the top or left of the menu area it closes immediately.
When this menu is open there should be an even-on-all-sides dead zone so that an inaccurate mouse movement doesn't inadvertently close the menu before you can make your selection.

yes!
I would consider having a larger zone as useful. I too have struggled with this issue at times.
Another improvement could be adding a delay before it closes. Like 0.2 seconds and if the pointer is on the menu by that time it won't close.
And if one wants to open one of the other menus on the row ("view" and "Console", that the pointer quickly flicks past), then a left click or a short (stationary) hover over those isn't much to ask for.
Especially if there is another menu next to editor type, it opens immediately when i move mouse to second column of editor type menu for example. instead I need move mouse down and then right.
Yeah, this is finicky as it currently stands.
