viewer node as overlay
viewer node is a bit annoying as it creates unnecessary crowd. Instead could it be like time overlays, when you cntr+shift+leftclick it just pops out on the top of the node you want to inspect?

What happens when you want to see the Geometry from a branch of the nodetree, but a Value from another branch? That's an important flexibility of the current method. For instance, in your screenshot, what Geometry am I seeing in the viewport? Whatever's linked to the Group Output ? That would be too limiting imo.
Actually behaviour is the same, cntr+shift+leftclick any geometry branch and then cntr+shift+leftclick any value you want to see. There is no limitation. Maybe up and down buttons to switch between values but just cntr+shift+leftclick is enough I think.
So if you want to see the geometry from Extrude Mesh in the viewport, but the Fac values in the spreadsheet, where would the Viewer pop out from?
yeah 2 pop outs, one for extrude mesh indicating which part of the branch, other noise texture values, fields etc. But it needs some design touch, I haven't thought much on that.
I think that this is not necessary, and an extra burden. Soon there will be something like "BSDF geometry" XD - sarcasm.
I believe that this node is excluded, because it is a flexible geometry system, individual setting that is not subject to standardization, such as PBR.
This makes it completely meaningless.
İ suggest this for geometry nodes, in shader nodes it is not a problem. Especially for complex setups it becomes difficult to use.
I understood this, it would be more correct to have a Viewer node, but it is not relevant here. What will be displayed will not help you))
There is some confusion. Probably my sketch miscommunicates, I might design something that communicates better when I have time.
I think that it is not worth it, the idea is understandable, it simply does not make sense for implementation, in technical and practical terms. Much easier to add:
But this does not make sense either, because no one works in only one geometry window, you should at least have 2 windows open:
This is a working nuance, it would not be correct to do otherwise. Everyone wants everything at once, in our case everything is in one window, which is also convenient. But, this does not seem to be the place for the viewing you suggested.
In other words, you can rephrase.
No need for a pop-out at all. Just the eye icon on every node. The domain could be selected in the "N" menu.
hmm, yeah that is true I guess.
