keep render result in blender file for still picture
What: I would like the render result to be saved with the blender file.
why: I do my comp for still picture in the compositor, from render layer with lot of passes. When client ask for a small change on a render layer I have to re render all render layer because even when "F" is pressed in the render result of image viewer, blender don't keep it
current workaround: One solution is to render to exr then load those exr then do the compositing... but it remove the ability to just press F12 to refresh one render layer.
Proposal :
Make the "F" button works :)
PS: please don't ask me for a mockup

Simple question: Why don't you save your render output to an actual image?
Because: -it involves lot of steps for each render layers instead of just one little check box "pack render result" in the render parameters
-There's not way to easily replace a render layer in the compositor with an exr from disk
-All render layers are saved in the same EXR, you cannot only write One render layer without loosing the others, so you need to really take care of the file name ouput when pressing "animation" even for a still picture
F12 don't write to disk
File read node don't update automatically
Workaround doesn't work sometimes, there is a bug in reading or writing exr file, I can't retrieve some passes. BUG:
And because it will save times not only setuping but also managing, you just need to increment on blender file name from time to time.
Sounds like a version of the cache compositor request?
you can pack your exr in the blender file
this is not the issue
Then perhaps you might explain why packing your saved render in the .blend file wouldn't be an acceptable solution.
how do you pack Render result?
To my knowledge, I think that may still require a Save As operation in the UV/Image editor. But packing the result from there should be just like packing any other image file in a .blend.
Yes, that would be nice to have.
I need this feature too. I use it when I bake a texture with a camera instead of classic baking. When the render is finished I need to pack it as a classic texture. It is really a pain to have to save it externally and re-import them while they are already in the software.
