Duplicating hair particle system and having independent controls
I am a Blender 2.79 user. Now moving on Blender 2.8. I have a suggestion related to hair particle system.
Once we create any of the groom in hair particle system, we can duplicate it but we can’t treat or modify it independently. If we does any property change, it applies for the original as well as the duplicated one.
So I suggest it will be great to have this function in Blender hair particle system, where we can duplicate the hair particle system and modify it independently.

Hey Everyone ! , I found a way, I had to, because seems like even with the 3.1 release, there doesn't seem to be a way to unlink copied hair particles while keeping the edits. . Here is a way ! . Put your Hair Particle Object, Just one and not all of them in a collection (if you have Forcefield For Eg) or just as a standalone object. Save it ! and open a new project and append that specific particle mesh or collection that contains it into the new blend file. Save it and then append that into your main project. Hurrah ! done. now they are unlinked, but still have the edits that you made with that sweet comb. . please let me know if there is an other way right now.
Worked! Thanks. It's crazy that there still isn't any feature to do this easily in 3.1
I do agree, this feature is a must!
Are you planning to convert the hair into mesh? if that is your case, you can duplicate the whole base mesh, this allows you to save the particle edit.
I found it. Open Preference > Editing > Object > Duplicate Data > Turn on Particle. Then when you duplicate the object, the particle setting will also be duplicated. You don't need to brush again.
* @panton116 * If we duplicate hair root object, hair settings are no more linked. So we can change individually. However, if many hair particle systems are needed on one mesh, we have to duplicate object just for copy settings and then tweak each.
There is an option called "Duplicate Particle System" on Particle Properties Panel, but it doesn't work ideally. Users count number is grayed-out and you can't click for unlink until you click "Delete Edit" button. You now have copied properties settings and can tweak independently, but "Delete Edit" button already deleted your combed particle strand.
I'm not good at English, so sorry for my bad writing, but I really hope Blender's Hair system become better!
Maybe i'm missing the point but anyway: Are you aware that a particle system is a datablock? And so, as every datablock in Blender it can be re-utilized by other objects; or made unique by clicking on the tiny number (users count) next to its name. So, to my ears you're asking for something that it is already there (since ages), by design.
* @ Lsscpp * You can duplicate particle systems but it wont transfer the combing, so you will have to do that all over again. Im pretty sure this is what OP is referring to.
* @Quinten.Pillen * That would be the point I missed...
* @ Lsscpp * I am aware of this option. I have tried using it, it gives you preset of the particle node, but it does not copy tweaked guides(combed guides) of the same preset particle node, from where we are coping from.
And in duplicate option in the particle option, it duplicates or takes preset from the particle node you are coping from. It gives you a copy of combed guides but we can't make it unique(user count remains inactive).
So I am discussing for the option where we can take a combed guides and preset from any other particle node and we can make it unique(by clicking one tiny number which is inactive now), So that we can weak those guides as well as particle node options further as per our requirement.
* @Quinten.Pillen * Yes, so It would be better if we get combing as well as preset of the particle system and again if we can further tweak it separately
Why have you marked this "In Development"? Are you aware of a dev that has picked it up and is currently actioning it?
Ohhh mybad, updating the same.
