Stencil buffer objects for eevee

With eevee it would be amazing to have an object option to write into the stencil buffer to be able to quickly cut through complex meshes:

In the image above I put the option under Viewport Display but it might be misplaced as this option could also be used for rendering (and therefore not just viewport) complex booleans without using the boolean modifier. This could massively enhance the workflow for rendering cut CAD meshes.

Another extension of this would be to add a material input (or use the stencil objects material?) for the cuts and maybe a collection limitation option (similar to how the Visibility Collection input for reflection planes works).

How is this different than a live boolean?

This don't affect geometry at all.

Stencil buffer in Blender would open a lot of doors for shading and simple live compositing.

I think that should be a node in the shader editor, not in the Viewport Display menu. Working both in Cycles and Eevee.

Examples:

Impossible geometries: youtube.com/watch

Portals: youtube.com/watch

Compositing: youtube.com/watch

spiraloid

This would be most excellant for those of use making 3D Comics in blender as well. although I prefer having linked to a collection for hole in the floor type effects.
