Text window should come up usable

Currently the Text window requires you create a datablock before proceeding. This is stupid.

Having a text window open with NO datablock, and not being able to type or copy into it, is nonsensical. If there are zero datablocks, a new one should be created. If there are datablocks, the last one used should still be in that window. But there shouldn't ever be NO datablocks.

This reeks of programmer obsession versus usability. It smacks of word processors that insist you save an empty file before proceeding, in the goddamn stone age of computing.

I don't disagree, but you might consider rewording your proposal to be a bit more professional, you're not going to endear many people with a tone that suggests a jaded user with an unbearable sense of entitlement.

The current functionality is consistent with the majority of editors in Blender. For instance, opening the Shader Editor doesn't automatically create a material. Same for the Geometry Node Editor, UV Editor, Image Editor, Movie Clip Editor, Dope Sheet Action Editor ...

Changing the functionality for only the Text Editor would create inconsistencies in the software that can be unnecessarily confusing and redundant, especially when the current workflow only requires one extra click to make a new text datablock.
