UV Function - Unwrap selection & "Unwrap selection along Horizontal, or Vertical coordinates"
This is a much needed feature for the UV tool-set in Blender. While it is great to unwrap an object after its seam selections have been marked. Further refinements and what I would refer to "Precision" to unwrapping objects (Organic in particular) very much require this!
In games, film, and 3d related industries that utilize small tillable details on assets for cost efficiency. Often more than anyone would realize. Artists are required to create "Straight edged UV islands" or squarish depending on the overall unwrapped shape of the initial UV unwrap for production.
After unwrapping has been established from the seam selection. The ideal would be to allow the user to select unique (uv's, edges, or faces) from the unwrapped uvs and refine them from a selection that's isolated for refining further unwrapping.
The key to this feature that is missing (yes missing from TexTools, UV Toolkit, etc.) Is the ability for the user to select all UV's that are in the vertical or horizontal span of the island and unwrap along ONLY the U, or V coordinates. This helps to eliminate seam distortion for a straightened edged UV island. Where opposing vertices are matching 1-1 while the inner parts are unfolded as much as possible.
Right now the "distribute" function does NOT take into account the actual "distance" each Vertex/UV in 3D space on the geometry is from one another when unwrapping in the UV Editor.
I & many professionals would be most grateful that this can be reviewed in the "Texturing" portion of what is being looked at for bettering Blender in the 3.0 updates. Because the truth is, we don't just mark seams and press unwrap and call it a day. We have to tile textures seamlessly detail textures all the time. Blender at the moment just doesn't make this feasible.
I have added a thorough breakdown in this thread at the bottom in the development talk. For the results I'd like to see achieved for all of us.
