Main Request: Just a simple button to import subtitles into the VSE. In the same way as the export button does. If the subtitles overlap (in timings) the first takes president and the second is on the strip above (and so on and so forth). Having the ability to import timed text (Subtitles) is very useful, say if you've not recorded dialogue yet (or your still pre-production) you can import as text strips and begin timing your scene (like adding a music track for a music video).

Support for colour:

Example:

15 00:00:54,720 --> 00:00:56,600 <'font color="#ffffff">Ha! <'/font><'font color="#ffff00">There are meant to be<'/font> <'font color="#ffff00">two of them.<'/font>

16 00:00:56,600 --> 00:00:59,760 <'font color="#ffffff">Well, I think I'd have spotted<'/font>

[apostrophes are so the test shows up] It would be neet to have basic colour support (Importing and exporting) with an option to not export colour data of course.

Support for Bold, Italic & Underline although that's not supported in text strips yet.

Not asking for ASS anything close to as complicated as (Advanced SubStation Alpha).

someone also did this with Animation Nodes, where you just load Srt subtitles.

I have a feeling that this could pretty easily be done with an add-on (if it hasn't been already). However, it would be helpful if you could provide a bit more information. What file format would you want to be supported (e.g. SRT)? Also, I'm assuming that you'd want the import to use the VSE's text strip, but if you have something else in mind, it's a good idea to mention it.
