Dyntopo: operation cannot be interrupted → full Blender freeze

Graphics card: NVIDIA RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC, 12288 MB
Blender Version Broken: Blender 5.1 (and earlier versions, the issue has existed since 2.66) Worked: None, the issue has existed since Dyntopo was introduced in Blender 2.66.
Short description of error Dyntopo operations cannot be interrupted once they start. If the detail size is too small for the object scale, Blender completely freezes and the only way to stop the operation is to kill Blender through the Windows Task Manager, causing a full shutdown and total loss of the session.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Create a large‑scale mesh
Enable Dyntopo
Set a detail size that is too small
Perform a stroke
Blender becomes unresponsive and never recovers
Probable cause: Dyntopo runs its operations on the main thread with no:
abort flag
interrupt handling
timeout
cancel mechanism
Expected behavior: The operation should be interruptible, for example via:
Esc
a “Cancel” button
an abort flag inside the Dyntopo update loop
a safety timeout
Why it matters: Dyntopo is essential for localized organic sculpting. The lack of an interrupt mechanism is currently the main cause of full Blender freezes during sculpting.
Request: Please consider adding an interrupt/cancel mechanism for Dyntopo operations (even a minimal one).
Thank you for your time and for all the work done on Blender.
