Clicking canvas in node editor (shader editor) should deselect all and shift-click should select multiple nodes

I find it annoying when I have to specifically deselect something or make sure only the one node I want is really the only thing selected. It is super easy to accidentaly delete whole node trees for example just because a whole lot of nodes were still selected that you are not aware of (outside screen for example).

Clicking canvas to deselect all also makes sense as it is common practise in all other programs. Also in blender clicking the canvas/background deselects all objects in 3d viewport and in text editor as well. So now the same thing works differently in at least two editors inside blender.

I'd also want to just select a bunch of nodes by holding shift/control and clicking them and then drag them like you can select and drag multiple icons on your dekstop. It is just cumbersome to have to use the g key for something that should doesn't need any keys but just the mouse button really.

They will do it for the outliner so they will probably apply this to node editor as well.

But you are right, that is totally needed. The entire software should follow the universal conventions.

This should be the next step, as it is now the behaviour of the 3D view: LMB on the viewport actually deselect all objects. This would be coherent.

I also find very intuitive to use Ctrl and/or Shift with LMB to extend the selection. Like in listboxes and practically any multi-selectable controls..
