If the action will take too much resources (time) then ask the user if want to continue
I usually accidentally set parameters too high and therefore Blender crash. A setting option that allow the User to be warned before doing an action that might take "X" amount of time/resources (the user set this amount himself) of the PC to accomplish. The user can choose to cancel or continue with the action.
Alternative:
Insteaf of warning, I think an option to limit the amount of resources the action can use might be better. For example would limit the max amount of bevels that can be done to 40 or so.
P.S: Not sure what causes Blender to crash when an action is too "heavy" so I call that thing that the PC need to give to Blender to do those tasks "Resources" but not quite sure what it is exactly, but to setting the max amount of "resources" blender has for its actions it might help to avoid blender from crashing for low tier PC users.

@minimisaurio with great power, great responsibility, someone can use your crashing setting because he/she need it with better PC configuration. Blender cannot know how it can influence your particular PC setting in resource and time, if you have only Blender session open or more or if you have in same time use some other heavy software. In 2019 Blender was downloaded over 5 millions of time, how Blender take account of all these differ PC setting?
