Allow users to assign keychords in hotkeys
Hello blender developers and community! Here' a little suggestion for blender UI improvement.
- Add an option to assign KEYCHORDS to our operators and commands we use in KeyMap preferences section.
If you have programming experience and used different IDEs you have probably used keychords extensively. For those who are new to that notion, let me explain:
Key-chord is when you press certain keys, for example modular keys and a letter key like: CTRL + K, and then the program waits for a certain period of time or just waits before you press another key, for example, another combination of CTRL+ S and executes the command assigned to that key.
What it does is -> It allows users to have additional layers of hotkeys available.
3d artists use a lot of hotkeys and mostly our arms rest on left side of the keyboard and a mouse\stylus. Everyone sooner or later gets to the point when they need to customize their Keymaps and here everyone would have their own "most efficient" workflow preferences. But very quickly we start to run out of keys on the left side of our keyboard, even with combination of modular keys, and are forced to remap some things to the left side which leads to uncomfortable interruption during work, because we either need to reposition our left hand or use our right hand.
Keychords will allow users to have additional layers to bind built-in and custom operators on top of existing keymaps. Theoretically it doubles the amount of possibilities to keymap and greatly improves usability and customization.
Blender has the best and most robust hotkeying system compared to other 3d DCCs, this provides us with many options to map our keys, but it can also be greatly improved with this addition.
