Feature request - Input/Output

Hello everyone. I propose some I/O features for Blender, they are:

  • Capture audio from system sound, microphone
  • Capture video/image from display (screen-shot/cast), cam, scanner
  • Output to [3D] printer

Thanks in advance for your 2 cents.

I'm not sure that Blender should be responsible for 3D printing. It can export as STL files just fine and there are plenty of free slicers that do a great job.

These should be 3 separate proposals. Each one demands quite a bit of interface design so having mockups would help.

e.g:

  • Where in the UI do you capture audio from?
  • How do I choose which device?
  • How does the export to 3D Printer process look like?

The more details you provide on how it should work, the less thinking the developers have to do (especially in UI!). So the more likely a feature can get implemented.

In the Video Sequence Editor, there should be a panel with 2 checkboxes, one for video and one for audio. These also works like a dropdown, when one is checked a device selector is displayed. Capture results are shown in the VSE, or the image editor when capturing a single image.

Printing should print an image of a window's content, a render or a text file to the printer.

For 3D printing, I don't really know, because I haven't a 3D printer nor ever 3D printed anything. I just have an inkjet.
