Reuse Data option when Copy Pasting

This one is simple (on the paper) : If you paste an object from a .blend file to another, it should first check if the data already exists in the scene (For example, the textures, it looks for exact name correspondence) and if it matches, the user has the option to either :

  • Reuse the existing data and therefore avoid using more space and memory
  • Overwrite it
  • Just have a copy with .001 etc.. like Blender does currently.

Since there can be a lot of duplicate data, there can be an option "Apply this for all element" button, so we can pick to "reuse data" for "all elements" for example, a bit similar to how Windows file explorer works when transferring files.

I'm writing down this idea, because while working on a big project, I found myself blocking an environment and then manually create each assets on a separate .blend file. A good option was to use Copy-Paste from the main file to the individual asset one. I often use the same textures for texturing, but since I'm pasting them back to the main file individually, those textures simply become duplicates, and I find myself with a lot of the same texture over and over in my .blend file. I have to manually reassign them to the original texture, which can easily get tricky in complex situation. Not doing it can lead to a drop in performance in memory and video memory.
