Use "Disable in Viewport" and "Disable in Render" instead of "Mute" for VSE Channels

VSE vis.jpg

This would be especially useful for heavy Metastrip : just show one simple element in the metastrip while you work (like a solid background, fast to compute), and let the heavy stuff being computed only during render.

you can also use channels for marking, notes, guides, and it wouldn't be rendered, no need to switch those channels to mute every time.

I think when you mute, it is disabled in render, the same way when you disable a collection. For disabling it only for viewport, I think that is something that doesn't exist currently, so it would be a good addition. Also, the channels should be reorganizeable, dragging and dropping them in any order. The channel number and its name shouldn't be linked. You should be able to move an entire channel content to another channel so to speak.

Never thought of that, and this is a brilliant idea.
