Add tools to Blender's Image editor

Hello everyone. I'd like Blender's Image Editor to support more tools Here is what inspires me:

Offset, Sepia, Colorize, Color to Alpha, Heal, Dodge/Burn, Align, Move, Shear, Text

Please, will you let me know if is it anything above planned or if will it be considered, and any ETA in such cases?

Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, have a nice day.

Kindly, Giuseppe.

Sepia is a matter of painting with your brush set to Color mix mode. Dodge similarly to use Color Dodge mode, Burn to use Color Burn mix mode. Heal brush for now is imitated slightly by the Clone tool, but the better implementation of it is in the 3d viewport as the behavior is more of what you expect here with setting the clone source from the 3d cursor and then copying the pixels to the paint dab.

Offset is possible by opening the View tab on the Image Editor and turning on 'Repeat Image' to see the repetition so that you can create a tiled image pattern, and you can also turn on X and Y in the Tiling panel of the Active Tool when in Paint mode of the Image Editor.

Color to Alpha is a little tricky to explain, but if you use a Fill Tool and set the threshold to a low value with the burhs mix mode set to Erase Alpha, you will be able to imitate the behavior that way.

All of the above works in the Image Editor with exception to the Clone tool behavior in the 3d view.

As there are no plans yet set for adding a layer system to the Image Editor, I use a camera in the 3d view and an image plane to allow me to capture other objects into my painting via render like Text Objects using emission shaders for a shadeless effect, Align Tools addon for alignment of objects, Measure It addon, Bool Tool addon etc. Shear is possible with mesh transform in Edit mode.

Hey, thanks so much for your explanation.

I didn't either suspect this would be possible in another way, so, please, can you kindly list which AddOns could I install to simulate all of this?

Thanks in advance for any further help, I greatly appreciated your reply.

Regards, Giuseppe.

The Brush blend modes are there in the Tool Blend Mode when painting, you just have to get familiar with how they work. The Fill tool trick is something you use in the 2d Image Editor space since only there will the threshold be present as a setting. Aside from that, a good layer manager for using multiple images in the 3d view as layers is Ucupaint which you can get from the Extensions tab in the preferences.

Thanks so much. I got Ucupaint and gave it a go, very nice, but I just scratched the surface.

Thanks again for your comments, I guess we could close this now. Using Ucupaint and other AddOns we could achieve this and beyond.

Either add as nodes or built in tools
