Black and white EEVEE vieport
Would be awesome if you add the possibility to have EEVEE viewport in Black and white to check just the values. Thanks!! <3

If you're on windows you can do this with color management. I have it set to a hotkey so it works from photoshop, substance painter, or anywhere else: laptopmag.com/articles/disable-enable-grayscale-mode-windows-10
* @testure * thanks thats a nice temporary solution
This is now possible with the Viewport Compositor. Create a Compositor Editor, Enable 'Use Nodes' and Add > Color > Hue/Saturation/Value node. Set the Saturation to 0. Connect the Render Layers' Image property to the HSV's Image input. Connect the Image Output to the Composite Node. Then in your 3D View's Viewport Shading drop down, switch Compositor to Camera or Always.
If implemented, I suggest it should appear as just another "Display Device" under "Color Management" in the "Render Properties" next to sRGB, XYZ: and an additional grayscale. Then add it to your quick favorites.
One solution could be to add a saturation slider to color management tab next to Exposure and Gamma. This would allow to keep current view transform and look. Working with values only can be really helpful when doing renders to see if the image reads well without being tricked by colors. This will also allow black and white renders without using the compositor and to see the final result right in the viewport.
* @sozaps * If you're going to go that far you may as well be all inclusive and just ask for LUT support, which would enable black and white and literally every other type of color correction, levels, curves, etc.
I don't know how eevee's render buffer is organized, but it can't be all that different than any major game engine, and a color correction post effect is just about the easiest screen space shader you can write.
* @testure * The most important IMO is being able to switch between color and B&W easily so it can be used either to render B&W or to check values of the render while working. The trick you posted is quite nice but it doesn't look that simple for other OS. I guess for eevee indeed it's easy to write as a post process, but it also need to work for other engines as well.
