Selection Input on Subdivide Mesh Node
Currently to subdivide a specific part of a mesh in geometry nodes, you have to split the mesh. This means the edges get separated between the two parts, creating gaps when you modify the mesh again.
It would be super useful to have a boolean face selection input for the Subdivide Mesh node so that you can subdivide specific parts of a surface without creating the gaps.

Another option would be to make the selection edge-based, rather than face-based, the same way the subdivide operator does.
Subdivide related eflemen into different levels sounds complicated, weird, and not applicable.
A subdivide into islands already seems possible. But in general, I saw these were just operations for instances.
I have seen people trying to subdivide specific faces a lot, and they all end up with separated edges due to splitting the mesh.
A simple implementation would be to just create n-gons. While that's something that's generally avoided, in many geonodes use cases where I would use variable subdivision, that would be acceptable, and preferable to not having a selection input.
